Nicholas James Miller
Hello, fellow students, and readers of The Beacon. My name is Nicholas James Miller, early in the fall semester of 2013, my first semester of college, I eagerly wrote an article explaining what the Southern Maine Community College Music Club is about. First, its a club that some of my fellow students, and I started who are passionate about our musical sides. The idea was to start the club in the hopes of inspiring others to pick up a guitar, or drum sticks, or just to come join us and to sing along.
Recent speculation and poor turnout has lead many members of the student body to believe that the Music Club is dead and gone. Rumor has it that we aren’t going to continue. That it is a lost cause, and that there is no hope left for our group. I’m here to let you know that this is far from the case.
In case anyone hasn’t read my articles in the past, I’ll dive into explaining what the club is all about. Music Club meets on Monday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00 (more or less) in the All Faiths Campus Chapel. There, we will write, rehearse, and record songs with our fellow musicians, and have a blast doing so. In addition, we teach free guitar and bass lessons to anyone who is wanting and willing to learn, so that eventually they’ll possess the skill and confidence needed to join us on stage for Monday night Open Mic, in Jewitt Auditorium at 6 pm.
Music Club is now under new leadership, and has had a turnaround that could even be considered monumental. I, myself, am eager to see what new faces will join us, play alongside us, and have a marvelous time doing so. Any questions anyone may have about Music Club can be sent to my school email address, nicholasjmiller@smccme.edu. We hope to see you there!
