Ever Wanted to Learn How to Dance Salsa

By: Erik Squire

If you ever wanted to grab your dancing shoes and have an awesome night, but didn’t because you’re a horrible dancer, then you’re in luck. April 23, Portland Maine Salsa (PM Salsa) will be starting beginner classes in Portland every week on Wednesdays at the Maine Ballroom Dance, at 7pm. Now there’s no excuse to say there’s nothing to do!

It is a great atmosphere, fantastic company, and in my opinion (so basically it’s a fact), nowhere else will you find a better dance instructor. The classes are affordable, and it’s close by on Congress St! So come take your gal, or guy and have a great night and score some points. If you’re single; not to worry! You don’t need to bring a partner, just come and meet some of the great people that are going by themselves.

Having taken the classes myself, I can honestly say it is absolutely enjoyable. Dancing should be a life skill that no one can go without. It adds flavour to one’s self, and even creates opportunities. For instance, if this really good looking girl/guy is at a dance party and they’re dancing Salsa, chances are you’re the only other person who will know how to Salsa, then you make your move. Personally I’ve had great experiences from knowing how to dance Salsa, that I wouldn’t have had otherwise, like dancing in Boston to live music, underneath the open sky, with a lively crowd. Any big city you go to in the U.S. there’s bound to be a great Salsa community guaranteed.

If you’re interested, please check out PM Salsa’s website at: www.pmsalsa.com. I promise you, that if you get involved, you will not regret it. If you want to try just one night, that’s perfectly acceptable, you don’t have to make a commitment.  The art of dance is something you have for life that certainly adds enrichment. So please, get out and try it!
