Every summer has one major blockbuster movie that leaves its’ competitors in the dust. A few years ago, that movie was the Avengers. This summer? Nothing could compare to Guardians of the Galaxy. The funny part, they were both made by Marvel Studios. Combining the boom for superheroes with the excitement of space age travel, Marvel has shown a great sense of humor with their films, and staying on par with the action that follows. Marvel finds a way to outdo itself with every movie they make, each one more memorable than the last.
What I love about Marvel is their ability to combine science fiction with comedy and action in every film they create, while leaving logical explanations behind every fandom, making it seem as though what we see on the film screen could actually happen in reality.
The film begins by telling the origin story of Peter “Starlord” Quill, who, as a child, was abducted by an alien spacecraft shortly after his mother’s death. Twenty six years pass in an instant to the present day, where Peter has become a notorious outlaw, running from the law, all while listening to his mix-tape, “Awesome Mix: Volume 1,” which was given to him by his mother. Perhaps this could be the best compiled movie soundtrack I’ve heard in my life.
The film follows the story of Peter and his Motley Crue of unintentional partners as they fight off the armies of Thanos, and as they struggle to protect a legendary orb that gives its wielder astounding power.
It’s been greatly hinted that the Guardians of the Galaxy will eventually meet the Avenger’s in future films to fight the overwhelming power of Thanos. What I believe would make the film unforgettable, is to stage a dance off between Iron Man and Starlord.
The first scene in the film of an adult Peter (Starlord) shows him dancing to his mix-tape as the opening credits roll. Robert Downey Junior, no stranger to the dance floor, would definitely make a great addition to a crosser film when the two forces combine to beat overwhelming odds. Chris Pratt, the actor playing Starlord, has shown incredible dancing ability, the kind that we should definitely expect more from the character.
As for who would win? That’s a question only Marvel can answer. Will they? It’s unknown. I know for certain I won’t be missing any of Marvel’s films to come.
