SMCC baseball edges Bridgton in opener

Coach Lemieux excited for the season

SMCC baseball started off their season on the right foot playing a close, entertaining game against Bridgton Academy, coming up on top 1-0. It was a pitching duel for both teams. Each team used a variety of pitchers on the day seeing what their teams had to offer. On the mound for SMCC was Dylan Morrow, Ian Boyle and Nate Boyle. Morrow started on the bump for the Seawolves with both Ian and Nate Boyle in relief. They combined pitching seven innings, giving up three hits, striking out seven and walking four. Nate Boyle continued his dominance on the mound from last season striking out five of the 11 batters he faced in three innings.

The loan run of the game came in the 2nd inning by Tucker Lee with a sac fly scoring Kyle Bussiere. This game shows the strong pitching that the Seawolves have this year in hopes to capturing another conference championship. “I was pleased with the way Dylan, Ian and Nate threw,” said SMCC head coach Jared Lemieux. “Morrow and Nate Boyle both pitched successfully for the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide this summer and have entered this season on a mission.”

SMCC had seven hits offensively but struggled to score and Bridgton’s defense was making plays in the field. “Offensivly, the guys had great plate appearances and I have plenty of faith that this squad will be able to score runs,” said Lemieux. SMCC was lead offensively in this game by Alex Brown (USCAA First Team All-Conference) who was 2-for-2 and Phillip Langley who was 3-for-3.

“I am excited about our returning bats of Alex Brown and Jon Daniszewski this year, also having transfer students that have entered into the mix, SS Langley, IF Justin Ciszewski and OF Bussiere. I am also excited about our eager group of incoming freshmen who are chomping at the bit to make an impact right away,” said Lemieux.

SMCC will open up at home on Wednesday September 10th against Eastern Maine Community College. First pitch 4:30 p.m.
