Since the last edition of the Beacon, the Women and Men’s basketball teams have gone on an impressive roll, posting an 11-1 record. What truly stands out over the course of this stretch is how much the lady Seawolves have outscored their opponents.

In Saturday’ game against conference foe, University of Maine-Machias the Lady Wolves thrashed the Clippers 112-35, marking this victory as the most lopsided one this season. The Lady Wolves were never really challenged scoring the first 9pts of the game in route to building a 63-13 halftime lead.

Individually, starter Alicia Hoyt and reserve Katherine Cyr were the leading scorers posting 16 and 18pts respectively. On the boards Alicia and Amira Jones shared top honors grabbing 11 and 10 boards, while Jordan Turner dished out 6 assist and Katherine Cyr pocketed 4 steals.

After 40minutes of play the Lady Wolves walked off the court sporting a 6-1 YSCC record and 8-4 overall. The ladies travel to Auburn Thursday evening for a conference showdown with CMCC who remains undefeated in conference play posting a 4-0 record while falling 3 times in non-conference play thus sporting a 7-3 overall record.
Shortly after the Lady Seawolves dismantled the Lady Clipper’s of Machias, the men took the court to battle it out. The Men Clippers walked into the Hutchinson Gym with a modest 2-0 YSCC record and 4-6 overall. At ther beginning of play Machias was one of three teams in the Eastern Division of the YSCC to remain undefeated. After 40 minutes of play, only one team would remain unscathed.

Atencio Martin started the Wolves off by hitting a 3pt shot a little over a minute into the game, which was followed by Greyson Waterman’s 3 point 35 seconds later. SMCC was able to build a double-digit lead over the course of the first half building a 44-22 lead when the buzzers sent the teams to the locker room.

Where the first half was dominated by the Seawolves inside play out rebounding the Clippers on the offensive boards 10-5, and shooting better than 50% from the field to Machias’ 32%, the second half proved a different story.
Machias pounded the ball inside against SMCC and started hacking away at the lead. With 1:42 left, Machias pulled within 10, only to watch SMCC gain a bit breathing space when Alexander Hartford and Jordan DeRosby scored on driving layups.
When all was said and done SMCC walked off the court with their undefeated YSCC record still intact. Individually, reserves Jack Tolan and Tyheem Simon drained 15pts each, as Atencio Martin and Carlos Gonzalez grabbed 8 and 9 rebounds respectively.

The Men Seawolves also travel to Auburn Thursday night to battle it out with CMCC. The Mustangs come into Thursday night’s game with an undefeated YSCC record (4-0, they played Machias on Sunday afternoon and the result was not available before press time), and have an 8-5 overall record.

Thursday’s evening games should prove to be 2 intense battles that pit the top two teams from the East Division of the YSCC against each other.
