The distinct contrast between the two sections of buildings gives the appearance of a window leading to a more intricate cityscape. The composition heavily relies on vertical and horizontal lines, but the one diagonal line from the top right corner to the central light area provides a smooth transition from the sections. Light is a heavy motif in this photograph and becomes the main focus because all of the intricacy occurs in the light area. This does not mean that the dark foreground does not have interest, instead it provides a simpler solution to the question of light; in this scenario elimination is an elegant describer.
