As one of the most anticipated films of the year, Mockingjay Part 2 did and will not disappoint.
The theater hummed as people excitedly awaited the start of the film, looking forward to the conclusion of the Hunger Games saga. Having read all three books, my expectations for the film were high, and after experiencing the film, I was still fairly satisfied with the results.
With Katniss Everdeen and District 13 pushing for a revolution and fighting back, every minute was intense. Peeta questions his truth after tracker jacker torture in the Capital, and continuously makes you jump with his actions. Katniss stays true to her goal: kill Snow, and at any lengths possible. We get to experience Phillip Seymour Hoffman in one of his last films in his career before his tragic death, and I can honestly say his talent and ability on screen will be sorely missed. With twists in the plot, some harrowing new mutt creations, and booby trap pods everywhere they step, Katniss turns her arrow towards the Capital with vigor.
Most of the movie stayed true to the story, other than a few minor details, which allows for fans everywhere enjoying their imagination come to life on the big screen. One of the biggest questions, and most drawn out some might say, is, who will Katniss end up with in the end? Gale or Peeta? Many have opted to choose teams, similar to the Twilight series, with #teamgale and #teampeeta, but one of the hardest things to figure out is who she will eventually pick in the end. That is, if you haven’t read the books.
Balancing out the moments of pure terror were some intimate and much needed scenes of joy and love, one being the marriage between Finnick and Anna, and another when Katniss and Peeta would clarify, real or not real, in regards to his memories that were warped by the Capital. We lose some major characters as we go, and many of our hearts still healing from the loss of Rue are ripped right open with the loss of more. The odds are not in everyone’s favor, but they most certainly are for whoever dares to encounter the action and the dynamic story’s conclusion in Mockingjay Part 2. A must see film, and bound to stay in theaters for at least another month.
