Tired of driving all over God’s Green Earth in search of a parking spot? Don’t wanna pay a $25 parking ticket because you tried to create your own spot somewhere? Well linger and loiter no more fellow Seawolves, because your friendly campus parking guru has got some solutions for you.
Solution number one: on street parking. This may seem incredibly obvious but a surprising number of students do not realize that they may park in the on street spots around campus. These spots tend to fill up just as quickly as any other regular student lots, if not quicker. However, it is always a good idea to keep this option in mind as yet another backup plan.
Solution number two: park at Bug Light. Bug Light Park, conveniently located on Madison Street is public parking owned by South Portland, meaning quite literally anyone is allowed to park there. If you’re running late, or got stuck on the bridge for an ungodly amount of time, or simply don’t feel like driving around campus for twenty minutes scoping out a spot; take advantage of that lovely little public parking lot there. Bug Light is but a hop, skip and jump away. Okay, maybe more like a ten or fifteen-minute walk to the middle of campus.
The third and final solution to students’ parking chaos: park at Willard Beach. Willard Beach has a parking lot at 30 Willow Street that is free for the public to use as well. This lot is approximately ten minutes away from the middle of campus and has space for up to 75 cars.![]()
These peaceful little strolls are significantly less frustrating than having to compete against twelve other vehicles for a single spot in any student parking lot. After all, cardio does the body good!
Just remember to keep these handy parking areas in mind when you are going crazy pulling your hair out trying to find a parking spot on campus and you’ll be set. May the parking chaos be ever in your favor, Seawolves.
