Sick of feeling crappy and fatigued all the time? Trying your best to dodge your germ infested dorm room because your roommate doesn’t know what Germ-X is? Well just follow these easy precautionary steps to ensure your good health this flu season at the SMCC res halls.
1- Eat healthy. Instead of going straight for the ramen and Cheez-its when you have a craving, try leaning towards snacks and drinks that are high in Vitamin C. Citrus, broccoli, and tomatoes are all high in Vitamin C, which can help fend off your body from illnesses in the first place.
2- Get plenty of sleep. Staying up binge watching Stranger Things on Netflix until 4am isn’t exactly going to help your chance of not getting sick. Your body needs rest time, especially in college when sleep and naps are savored everyday rituals, they are not be thrown away. Get as much rest as you can at night without staying in bed all day and becoming a potato.
3- Try not to share drinks. Just like your mom always told you, don’t share drinks with our friends if you think they’re becoming sick! This may just be common sense, but actively thinking about taking a sip of your friends’ amazing new pumpkin spice coffee helps you from becoming a germy mess a few days later.
4- Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water helps filter out all the bad gunk in your body. This natural filtration system helps get rid of toxins and other things that could weaken your immune system. Drinking water also helps with headaches when you’re dehydrated, or when you get a headache from listening to your roommate cough up a lung every night for 4 days straight.
5- Take a break when needed. When you become rundown and exhausted, your immune system kicks into overload to try and fight off whatever is bringing you down. This can leave you feeling fatigued, weak, and just plain terrible. Obvious solution? Take it easy when you can. Instead of going out on the town with your friends to the next new thing happening in the Old Port, stay in for a night or two and give your body some time to repair itself.
Follow these easy precautions and you should be able to steer clear of the current campus ick. Good luck, Seawolves!
