It only takes a few hours a week to be a Student Senate Representative. If you don’t like the way things are done and you would like to voice your concerns, or you just want to create positive change at SMCC, Student Senate is the place to do it. It’s also a place where one can learn valuable tools for the future such as, conflict resolution, respectful discussion, and the proper avenues one pursues to incite change; all are priceless in every occupation.
We hope to see you there next Wednesday at 4:30 P.M. Here’s what you missed this week. Two new Student Body Reps. were sworn in as Senators. Then the Senators voted to approve $600 for The Nursing Club to have an outreach breakfast at YCCC to recruit new students. We also voted to approve $270 for a Star Party on November 17th hosted by ACE. They gather at 7:30 to watch a movie, but I can’t tell you which one, then when it’s dark enough they watch for stupendous and spectacular astronomical events, and they eat pizza. We have $24,693.17 left in the student activities fund for the rest of the year.
The student welfare committee meets on Tuesdays at 3 P.M. in the noisy lounge, they would love to see you there. The Art Club is having figure drawings on November 10th at 2 P.M. in the art studio. This is open to all students. The Veterans club is having a flag raising ceremony on November 10th at 7:15 to honor veterans with a breakfast to follow. Most of the Governance Committees are looking for student reps. Information can be found in the student portal. Make the most of your time at SMCC; get involved.
