With two games remaining in Yankee Small College Conference play, the men’s soccer team is looking to end the season strong — and hoping that the schools ahead of them in the standing lose the games SMCC needs them to — in order to make it into the YSCC Soccer Final Four.
Last week the soccer team traveled to Unity College to take on the Rams and walked off the pitch with a 1-goal-to-nil win.
After the game, SeaWolf Head Coach Brian Dougher shared his thoughts, stating, “This was an exciting win for our program. The goal has been to win our remaining conference schedule — one game at a time. Today we took care of business with a fantastic effort from Jamal [Durrani] and the rest of our defense.”
The win in Unity was not an easy one for the SeaWolves, as it took regulation and two overtime periods for the contest to be settled. The winning goal came when SMCC’s Samuel Marshall delivered a corner kick that was headed past the Rams into the back of the net by Jamal Durrani. The goal would be Durrani’s first goal of the season, marking the team’s first road victory of 2017.
The SeaWolves’ last two conference games are scheduled for Oct. 14, when they host the University of Maine–Machias at Wainwright Field, and Oct. 20, when they travel to Central Maine Community College to play the Mustangs.
On the women’s side of the pitch, the Lady SeaWolves drew even with Unity, settling for a scoreless tie. The Lady ‘Wolves’ last two conference games are scheduled for Oct. 10 and 14, when they play CMCC and UMM at home at Wainwright Fields.
The Lady ‘Wolves currently sit in second place of the YSCC standings and are hoping to end their season strong.
