I remember thinking to myself, “This year is gonna be a rough one.” When the pandemic first started, the lines at the grocery store were long, and the streets were empty. Undoubtedly, I had more time on my hands, and I had to figure out how to fill my days without getting bored and depressed. It was so easy to get down in the dumps every day and to push people away. I think everybody was scrambling to keep some ‘normalcy’ in their lives and keep a positive mindset. Though this obstacle led me to think about my priorities and the goals I wanted set for myself, such as, “When I graduate, do I want to go to a four-year university? Do I want to get a job instead?” These were the distracting questions that were swimming around in the back of my mind. As time went on, I slowly realized that I could be happier if I just tried and took one day at a time and took the time I needed to care for myself.
For many, this pandemic has opened their eyes to the reality of their lives; we’ve maybe asked ourselves, “Are we happy with our job, our partner? Do we know ourselves well enough to make positive changes?” Gradually, I began to see my world-changing. I began to do things without even knowing it. I started to become more productive. All that time inside on the computer, directed much of my attention to the present instead of just getting through the day. I found my mindset changing, and it was a propelling force of becoming content and calm in all the world’s chaos that was surrounding me. Silver linings change day-to-day, and this pandemic is a ‘new normal’. For me now, getting up every morning and logging on to Zoom and checking my email makes me feel, in a way, accomplished. The silver lining one day could make you more productive and present in your thoughts. Maybe it’s getting outside and being more active, or maybe simply to get up out of bed and conquer whatever task you have, big or small.
In another aspect, the pandemic has made me understand my self in a way that I never knew before; it showed me my real charisma. As for now, we don’t know that the future will hold, life can change in a blink of an eye, and it can be confusing and scary. For some, a long storm can crush a person’s spirit; for others, it can make them stronger and more resilient. One way or another we all start to adapt to our new reality, we must move forwards, no matter how scary or stressful. Look inwards, start thinking about what makes you happy, what drives your motivations, know that the chaos of COVID is temporary. It can be an opportunity for you to reevaluate your daily routine and life goals. Think about what interests you, think about the people you surround yourself with, cherish what you have. And have faith in yourself, have strength, and determination in your heart, and just keep chugging away.
