Kelce Brothers, Mahomes vs Hurts, and the History Beneath

Most NFL viewers could say this Upcoming Super Bowl featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs is honestly quite an exciting matchup, well unless you are a 49ers or Bengals fan. While this is such an exciting game that many fans are stoked about seeing, there is a lot of history being made on the upcoming 57th Super Bowl.

For the first time ever in NFL history, two Black quarterbacks will face off against each other. This may not seem that impressive, it honestly is. Since the NFL establishment in 1920; when it was formerly known as AFPA, there have been 56 Super Bowls that have taken place; in which none have featured teams that have Black starting quarterbacks. For the NFL, this is truly a monumental moment to take place in the league’s history, as this displays the dominance growing throughout the sport as the diversity of the NFL is also increasing.

The year was only 1988 when Doug Williams became the first Black quarterback to win the Lombardi Trophy; around 42 years after the league’s establishment. Decades would pass until a 2nd Black quarterback would bring home a Super Bowl, and that wouldn’t be until 2014 when Russell Wilson and the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos in SB 48.

This isn’t the only history taking place in this upcoming Super Bowl. In 1 day, this will be the first Super Bowl to feature to brother’s facing off against each other. The Kelce brothers will be the first pair to play against each other on the football field. While one Kelce will become a champion and one Kelce will reach their fate, the true winner is their mother Donna Kelce.

The only other time 2 brothers faced off against each other in the Super Bowl was when 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh dueled against each other in SB 47. So History is being made on February 12th.
