A different road

Austin Ehrlicher was the 18th-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2022 Major League Baseball draft. Ehrlicher attended Santa Rosa Junior College in California.

He took me through the draft process, being from a junior college. He mentions how being drafted by the Red Sox last year was a pretty cool feeling. “To see all of the time and sacrifice I put into the game pay off in a big way was awesome and is exactly what I work for.”

Ehrlicher only knew someone personally in the organization after getting to the complex. He acknowledged that all the players heard met were pretty cool people. He thinks just being around such high-level talent every day is what he was most excited about. Being surrounded by people who are just as good if not better than he is part of what’s going to elevate him to the following levels.

Ehrlicher was a draft-and-follow, allowing the Red Sox to draft and follow him before signing. He tells me that the process was a little confusing at first. It was a rule that just came back last year, so understanding the reason behind it took a little time, but it worked out for him in the end.

He is just looking forward to soaking everything in and learning from the players and coaches he is around every day. He has never really been in this environment before, so Ehrlicher knows that there is a lot to learn, but he believes he can make a big jump with all the people and resources he has around.

As of June 26th, Ehrlicher was shut down for the season due to injury.
