Are Cafe Goers Redi to Make the Change?

Ever seen a robot in a coffee shop? Your regular coffee shop might have one, and you might not have even noticed! Say hello to RediUV by Redi Technology. You can find a coffee robot at both Cia Cafe and Verbena in South Portland, but don’t be frightened, this is a benevolent robot. RediUV is working to save the planet by encouraging people to bring their personal reusable cups into coffee shops. The device makes this concept safe and effective by using, “UVC LEDs to create a germ barrier between customers and employees, killing over 99% of common pathogens,” according to Redi Technology.

Not only is RediUV sustainable, but it is incredibly efficient. The time it takes to clean the container is probably faster than the time it takes an employee to write down an order on a plastic cup. After being prompted to place a reusable cup in the case, the machine senses the insertion, and its sliding door automatically shuts. In just a few seconds, the cup is spit out to the barista. It is not far-fetched to say that your iced chai latte, cold brew, hot tea, or whatever your regular order may be will surely taste better in an insulated cup than the plastic one it’s typically served in.

Granted, it can be a challenge remembering to bring a cup from home; the environmental impacts are worth the small effort. This little robot is making it easy to help reduce the 50 billion disposable coffee cups thrown away each year. RediUV is here in our community so, are you Redi to make the change?
