Maine Mayhem has done it once again! Promising young filmmakers are striving to produce the best possible films for your viewing experience.
Maine Mayhem is a yearly film festival put on in the spring. During this new and upcoming filmmakers can show off their films! The festival starts May 9th at the Nickelodeon Theater in downtown Portland.
The first movie is called “Were Dog” Directed by Kyle Morgan. “Were-Dog” takes the classic story of the werewolf and flips it on its head giving it a new creative spin. It’s about a dog who gets bitten by a werewolf and turns into a human, Then the newfound human teams up with a cop. Jason Walker who is a producer, assistant director, and lead actor in the film had this to say when asked why he chose to work on the film “It just seemed fun when we were doing pitches and I liked the proof of concept and wanted in”.
The second movie is called “The Memory Keeper” Directed by Kathryn (Katy) Morin. “The Memory Keeper” tackles the concept of a grandmother and granddaughter duo where the grandmother has Alzheimer’s, and during this, they go on a magical journey through an enchanted forest. When asked about why she chose to direct this film Katy had this to say “I wanted to see stories that reflected my childhood”. The producer and assistant director Ethan Wickham had this to say when asked about why he chose to work on this film “I thought it was a good script and it had a lot of heart and emotion to it”.
Everyone is very excited for the premiere. Teacher Corey Newman had this to say when asked about his thoughts on the film festival “Maine Mayhem is a truly unique experience that we offer here at SMCC where filmmakers get to create a film for theatrical distribution around the state. Every year, the students continue to raise the bar again and again really turning into professionals in the Maine film industry. This year is no exception, and I couldn’t be more proud of all the students”
