In case you haven’t heard, April is National Poetry Month! For each week of the month, The Beacon will be highlighting original poetry by both staff members and students here on campus. Our first post will be your truly, as this reporter was over the moon waiting for April to begin. Stay tuned each week for a new poetic spotlight!
Eve
I was Eve and you were Adam
back before I knew your greatest sin
I was struggling to have faith
since you were never good at telling the truth
brokenness crashed right over us
and so the serpent tricked us, too.
The garden became poisoned,
pomegranate seeds dried out in the sun
weakening the only armor I’ve ever known
staining this love of ours with blood.
All I can do now is hope the snake bites will heal,
that you’ll never be able to take away the things that I feel.
