The Jaguars’ passing game showed immense improvement in Monday night football’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Can the jaguars offense maintain momentum going into week 6?

Over the past four weeks, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars’ passing offense really stepped up in week 5. The Jaguars were able to obtain a surprising upset over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night football due to some impressive plays from their quarterback.
Over the course of the game Lawrence was incredibly consistent racking up some big stats in front of his home crowd, as a matter of fact Lawrence ended up throwing for 221 yards and had a completion to incompletion ratio ended with completing 18 of his 25 passes thrown along with one passing touchdown and only one interception. Lawrence was also effective with his legs against the chiefs rushing a total of 10 times for 54 yards, two of these attempts resulted in 2 touchdowns. However, Lawrence made numerous large throws to Brian Thomas Jr. and more notably Travis Hunter who had an immaculate 44 yard reception towards the end of the third quarter.
Moving on from the offense it’s certainly worth acknowledging that their defense has significantly contributed to much of their momentum thus far, as their ground game has been both concise and dominant particularly against the Chiefs on Monday night. From Lawrence being consistent with both his legs and his right arm, to the incredible performances from the defense, it begs the question will the Jaguars be able to maintain this level of excellence in their upcoming week 7 matchup against the Seahawks.
Trevor Lawrence threw for around 221 passing yards on Monday night against the Chiefs.
Week 5’s win against the Kansas City chiefs was undoubtedly Trevor Lawrence’s best performance of the 2025 NFL season. Despite not having the best game off of the ground statistically speaking, he was able to mark himself as the third highest in passing yards and obtained his most accurate complete rate of the season.
Brian Thomas Jr. had received just over 80 yards.
Much like Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr. also happened to have an excellent game against the chiefs. He had the most receiving yards of the season on Monday night football, taking in about four different catches for a total of 80 yards. Thomas Jr.’s insane production against Kansas City is the only time he has ever gone beyond the 60.5 yard line from week 6.
However, this performance was his second straight game without a dropped pass. He’s acquired about six or so targets in every game thus far for the Jaguars this season. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Emeka Egbuka obtained roughly 163 yards against the Seattle Sehawks’ in their last matchup, without their two best cornerbacks Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen, both of whom are currently placed as questionable for Sunday’s game against there Jacksonville Jaguars.
Travis Etienne Jr. rushed for just under 50 yards.
Travis Etienne Jr. even with all of the momentum around him ended up having one of his worst nights statistically speaking against the Chiefs on Monday night. Steve Spagnuolo’s defense was all over the Jaguars’ rushing game and were able to slow down and contain Etienne as well as Jacksonville’s other halfbacks. Etienne has 12 carries and only ended up getting around 49 rushing yards.
The Seahawks have allowed the third least rushing yards in the NFL so far this season. Etienne didn’t exceed the 63.5 yard line goal resulting in a rather disappointing performance. While the Jaguars without a doubt have had their struggles particularly within their running game, they will continue to push forward and seemingly work around these various issues potentially hinting at a playoff spot later on down the road.
