The use of Ozempic and other similar weight loss drugs has become more prevalent than ever, but there may be a drawback to what is actually happening to your body. A recent study by the University of Utah Health Department, as reported by Science Daily. showed that while muscle size decreased, though not as much as they thought, the muscle strength what took a hit.

In this study, researchers were testing the size and strength of the skeletal muscles of mice. What these researchers found is that even if the size of the muscle didn’t change, the strength was affected in some muscles. Researchers found that weight loss caused by Ozempic led to about a 10 percent decrease in lean bodyweight, which was not from a loss of skeletal muscle, but other tissues or organs.

The liver was said to shrink up to 50 percent in this study. Science Daily says that mice and humans lose weight differently from each other. They also pointed out the fact that humans usually become obese through lack of physical activity, and the mice in these studies were eating a high-fat diet, so there still needs to be clinical studies done to really determine what is happening.
