Maine State Senate hopeful Graham Platner has been dominating recent polls by Pan Atlantic Research showing him leading in the Primary by 7 points over Janet Mills the current governor of Maine and leading 4 points over Susan Collins the state senate incumbent. Platner has been on message speaking against the billionaire class and fighting for better housing solutions, healthcare, and general affordability in Maine. He receives no corporate PAC money joining Janet Mills in attempting to garner more grassroots support. This comes after months of attacks on Graham Platner for his questionable reddit takes and unfortunate Nazi related tattoo he received in his youth. Platner addressed both of these criticisms by saying he was much angrier in his youth and would type questionable things on reddit as a catharsis as he was “struggling deeply,” at this time in his life according to Morning Star Maine, adding that he was struggling with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression from his time in the military. For the accusations of having a Totenkopf tattoo (deaths head worn by the Nazis) he received this tattoo in Croatia when he was drunk with his fellow Marines. Adding that he has always been anti-fascism, anti-racism, and anti-Nazism stating, “I absolutely would not have gone through life having this on my chest if I knew that – and to insinuate that I did is disgusting,” from Politico. Platner has not let these controversies set him back as he has clearly shown his campaign resonates with a large selection of Maines population and his popularity only seems to grow.
