Since the beginning of 2026 states have held their party primaries for the upcoming midterms and I have noticed a trend, many of the candidates winning in these elections are what many analysts call a change candidate, someone who believes in a different type of politics than the current norm.
On March 3, 2026, Texas held its Democratic and Republican primaries, and the results were more than surprising. In the Democratic Senate primary Texas state representative James Talarico won in a surprising upset against United States Representative Jasmine Crockett.

Also, in Texas, the Republican primary also showed this trend of change in a more mellow way with incumbent senator John Cornyn and Ken Paxton heading to a runoff scheduled for May 26, 2026, with Cornyn’s political future resting on the republican voters of Texas.

Overall, more Americans believe we as a nation are on the wrong track, According to a YouGov poll conducted on march 20 2026. In the same poll, 54% of respondents stated that they were dissatisfied with the current state of democracy in the United States as well as 56% of Americans Disapproving of President Trump.
The short and sweet of this data is that the overall approval of the recent government actions is low and the people of America are looking for change from their government.
