One of seven children, Fiston Bujambi Seba remembers fleeing war-torn Congo with his little brothers in hand and running with thousands of others toward the Rwandan border. Fiston Bujambi (known as Seba to his friends) arrived in Portland with his family from Democratic Republic of Congo in 2010 and is currently a student at Southern Maine Community College.
Bujambi is well known in the Great Lakes Region of Rwanda, Burundi, and Congo for his Gospel music. He started to play music at the age of ten and writes his own songs. “My faith inspires my music. I hope my music will spread the power of love and compassion to the world.”
He will be releasing his first CD, UGUSENGA (Sweet Hour of Prayer) on August 15th. “I am thrilled to release my first album in Portland. Maine has been so good to me and my family. It is going to be an uplifting evening of true African Gospel music. I welcome everyone in Portland and surrounding communities to join in this celebration of love and life.”
The concert will be held on Saturday, August 15th from 5 – 8 pm at The Rock Church of Greater Portland, 66 Gorham Road in Scarborough. Special Guest Performance by Upendo Kilahiro, Olivier Clinton, and United Portland. The concert is free and open to the public. CDs will be on sale.
