The SMCC Seawolves Women’s Soccer team played in the USCAA Women’s DII Soccer Championship (USCAA) The tournament was in Virginia Beach, Virginia from November 12-14.
On their way to the championship the Seawolves started off by beating SUNY-ESF 1-0 This was an upset as SUNY-ESF was the top seed in the playoffs. The lone goal of the game was in the 31’ minute by Chanelle McDonough, assisted by Mackenzie Farnham.
With this win they advanced to face NHTI(New Hampshire Technical Institute) in Concord New Hampshire , where they won 2-0, upsetting the 5 seed NHTI. The first goal was scored by Desiree Veilleux, and the second by Chanelle McDonough. Both goals were unassisted.
These wins led the Seawolves to meeting up with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for the National Championship. In the 42’ minute Ammelia Lunt put the Seawolves ahead with an assist to Mackenzie Farnham as the lead entering halftime. In the 60’’ minute Julia Roemer, assisted by Shannon Donnelly, scored, tying the game up. The game stayed tied into penalty kicks, where Albany won 7-6 to take home the National Championship.
Chanelle McDonough lead the Seawolves in goals with 10 and in points with 20 throughout the season.
