The Grammy Awards is an exciting night for celebrities and viewers alike. Celebrities go to the show in hopes of winning an award. Viewers tune in to see the show-stopping outfits and remarkable performances and to see if their favorite artist will win. The 65th annual Grammy Awards was an exciting night for Maine viewers, as four people from Maine won Grammys that night.

Amy Allen, originally from Windham but now resides in Los Angeles, won a Grammy for her work as one of the songwriters for Harry Styles’ album, Harry’s House, which won album of the year. Allen has been a songwriter for a few years and has worked with artists such as Halsey, Shawn Mendes, Harry Styles, and Selena Gomez.
Dave Gutter, from Portland, won for co-writing the song “Stompin’ Ground” for musician Aaron Neville in the best American roots performance category. Gutter was invited on stage to accept the award on behalf of Neville. Gutter has written song lyrics for artists such as Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Aaron Neville, and Susan Tedeschi.
Mastering engineer Bob Ludwig, owner of Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, won his 13th Grammy that night. Ludwig won in the best historical album category for his work on the 20th-anniversary edition of Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
The fourth win went to Lawrence Manchester, from Windham, who won a Grammy for his work as the recording engineer on Into the Woods, which won for best musical theater album. These wins are significant because local artists get the recognition they deserve, and our state gets recognized too.
