The Tidal Shift Award

The Tidal Shift Award presented by The Portland Museum of Art, Maine.
  • The Tidal Shift Award  is a juried competition held by the Portland Museum of Art in Maine that aims to showcase, amplify and elevate youth perspectives and art to highlight climate change solutions.     
  • Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2023. Division 1 winners (ages 14-18) will receive $2,500 each and division II winners (ages 19-22) will receive $5,000 each.   
  • Participants can submit any medium or combination of media (within official rule guidelines) including visual art, music, poetry and more
  • The competition is open to people ages 14-22 across the Northeast, including Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. 
  • Students need to provide the following (electronically): Photos or videos of their artwork, film, music, written piece, etc. (within official rule guidelines). A work statement of up to 250 words. A filled-out application form. 
  • All Finalists will have their Entry exhibited in the Portland, Maine area near the time of Earth Day (currently earmarked for the evening of April 21).
