Steelers Struck by Loss of Haskins
The tragic death of Dwayne Haskins shocked the team and the league. “I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement.
Haskins was battling with Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky for the starting QB spot. We are yet to see how the players handle the tragic death of Haskins; however, there are examples of team success after tragedy. While it’s tragic and the Steelers mourn the passing, they need to move forward and put the best team on the field and win the Super Bowl.
Tragedies have struck a team prior to or during a season.
An example was on Jan 22, 2021, Atlanta Braves legend and face of franchise Hank Aaron passed away. Aaron wore number 44 and the Braves won 44 games in the first half and 44 in the second half of the season. The Braves won the 2021 World Series. With the number 44 always present during the season it was as if Aaron was there with the team without being there.
Another example was on April 15, 2013 there was the Boston Bombing. In the first home game since the bombing in the bottom of the 8th hit the go ahead 3 run home run. The Red Sox won the game and the World Series later that season.
One other example was on September 21, 2001, the Mets had their first game at home since 9/11 and with the Mets losing 2-1 Mike Piazza hit the go-ahead home run.
