Eliot Cutlers Fifth Probation Violation

Former gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler has been accused of a fifth probation violation after allegedly refusing to allow investigators into his private electronic devices. Probation officer Sam Payson signed a motion accusing Cutler of keeping encrypted files on his devices which would violate his probation.

According to WGME, Cutler was originally convicted of being in possession of child sexual abuse material (or CSAM) in 2023. Cutler was previously found in a South Portland hotel allegedly in possession of pornographic DVDs which violates the terms of his probation. According to his attorney, Walt McKee, Cutler provided three passwords to his devices that all failed to unlock.

Cutler may have his three-year probation revoked by the request of District Attorney Robert Granger. This would lead to him having his incarceration increased an unknown amount of time. “This is Mr. Cutler’s fifth violation of his probation conditions in a relatively short timeframe, all of which are due to his inability to refrain from pornography and participate in court ordered PSB [problematic sexual behavior] treatment,” according to Granger’s motion.

More developments are expected in the coming weeks.
