Someone I work with sent me this article, and they were wondering what the term “walked it off” meant, so I figured I would enlighten those who are curious.
In baseball, a “walk off” is when a team ends the game by scoring a run rather than ending the game with an out. The vast majority of baseball games end in a final out, because for a walk off to occur, there has to be a couple of circumstances in place.

First off, only the home team is capable of walking off their opponent, because the home team will always go last in any given game. Secondly, as I’m sure you’ve deduced at this point, for a walk off to happen the game needs to be close at the end, which is also why walk offs are so revered in baseball; because they cap off a close, hard-fought game in dramatic fashion.
